It was a concept which heavily influenced American policy in the 1800s. The idea was the driving force behind the rapid expansion of America into the West from the East, and it was heavily promoted in newspapers, posters, and through other mediums. Now to refer to the second question, how was manifest destiny achieved by the Americans? Well, manifest density was achieved after the war. First the U. S gained land from the Louisiana Purchase, and then it annexed Texas and Oregon, and finally it got more land from the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty gave the United States the Rio Grande boundary for Texas, and gave the U. S. ownership of California, and a large area comprising New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado.
